Our nonprofit Accent Network helped over 160 Oregon and Washington low-income residents fill out tablet applications. They were primarily refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan. For a one-time co-payment of $10.01, those who qualify received a Samsung tablet, with five years of unlimited service, through Verizon. Many of these refugees needed to have all the required documents in English, so it took longer for their application to receive a tablet at a reduced price to be approved. But soon, they will receive their tablets.
This is a benefit of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) – a U.S. government assistance program run by the FCC designed to ensure that low-income households can afford the broadband they need for work, education, healthcare, and more.
